2022 Spring Tour

This year we did another trip to the Kruger National Park. We did not intend to visit this soon again after last year, but I have joined the SANParks Honorary Rangers since then, and this year was a golden opportunity to attend their annual Indaba in Skukuza. We also visited my son in Pretoria and joined some friends, on our way to the Kruger, at the Pyramid Airfield near Barberton. I wake up in the middle of the night in our room at Naries, and hear a distant rumbling. Usually it is dead quiet on the farm at night, but not this time. I can hear the rumbling approach and then, as it passes the house, you can hear the structure sighs as it passes underneath. The quiet returns but, somehow, not the peace. A farmer shot in cold blood and diamonds strewn about, ready for the taking? Today we enter the world of pioneers and smugglers, of desolate mines and plains.  Danny is our tour guide today. We depart early in the morning and meet Danny and Garitha, dear old friends and our hosts, on the way to Malmesbury. The rainfall is quite heavy and we are expecting a bit of bundu-bashing along the way to their guest farm, Naries, near Springbok. We have decided to take the long road along the West Coast and some of these back roads are not tarred, so we could be in for some bumpy off-roading.
