Our initial idea to drive through KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape was inspired by a little village called Hogsback. We have heard a lot about it and it sounded like a place we would want to see. But it didn’t work out the way we thought it would be… We leave Nqanqarhu/Maclear in the morning after having a wonderful breakfast at our guest house. I am not sure what the real reason is why I like Pretoria. Is it because it reminds me of the Kruger National Park where you see exotic birds and trees everywhere and sleep in a rest camp (in Pretoria it is called your suburb) behind electric fences with the wilderness outside? Or is it the great weather or having the luxuries of a city while still having a more town-like feeling to it - some people from Pretoria still say they are going to the “dorp” (village) for shopping! Or is it because it is called the jacaranda city?…

2023 Spring Tour

Visiting several estuaries, beach towns and crossing a river on a pontoon - two days I have found to be very interesting.  Anette and I were invited to a wedding in Jongensfontein. We depart from Stellenbosch on Friday, driving up the N2. Just before Caledon, we stop at the Dassiefontein farm stall for breakfast. It has a fascinating collection of stuff to buy and the food and setting are great. Can you call it a coincidence that we run here into other family members who are also on their way to the wedding?
