It doesn’t take long to drive to Beaufort-West. The sky is a brownish grey due to a headwind blowing up lots of dust. We didn’t know this wind was going to blow the best part of the four days we were going to spend there. It is still very dry although the area had some out-of-season rains in the past couple of months. At least they do not have to cut the water supply during night-time anymore. Off we go! Anette and I are, as always, very excited to leave on a mid-year break to some unknown or special location in our beautiful country, South Africa. It was snowing on the Cape mountains earlier this week and initially we were undecided if we should drive via Ceres, where it sometimes snow on ground level, to our first stop in Klaarstroom. After our quick pit stop last winter at Klaarstroom, we decided that this year we will sleep one night in the hotel on our way to the north. We then visited Anette's parents in Beaufort-West and thereafter carried on to the Mokala game reserve, one of our favourites. On our way back home we spent a night in both Loxton and Merweville - the latter something we have wanted to do since we watched the Afrikaans series "Die Boekklub" that was filmed in Merweville.
